Just a few days ago, the United States government released new files related to unidentified aerial phenomena. The documents include military reports, pilot testimonies, images, and observations of objects that, according to the reports, could not be identified with certainty.
For some people, this confirms that extraterrestrials exist.
For others, it is evidence of secret technology that we do not yet understand.
And for many Christians, an inevitable question arises:
Does the Bible say anything about all of this?
The answer is more interesting than many people realize.
The first thing we must understand is that the Bible does not mention extraterrestrials as popular culture describes them. It does not speak of beings traveling in flying saucers or civilizations from other planets.
However, the Bible does speak of intelligent beings that are not human.
It speaks of angels.
It speaks of cherubim.
It speaks of seraphim.
It speaks of demons.
It speaks of an invisible spiritual reality that exists beyond what our eyes can see.
And that alone is remarkable.
Long before telescopes, radar systems, or satellites existed, the Bible taught that reality is far greater than what we can perceive.
But there is another subject that always comes up whenever extraterrestrials are discussed.
Giants.
In Genesis 6:4, we find one of the most mysterious passages in all of Scripture:
“There were giants in the earth in those days…”
The Hebrew word used is Nephilim.
For thousands of years, scholars, theologians, and researchers have debated who these beings really were.
Some believe they were simply men of extraordinary size and power.
Others believe the passage describes something much more unusual connected to the events before the Flood.
The Bible does not answer every question about them, and that is precisely why the topic continues to generate discussion today.
Later, we encounter other giants mentioned throughout Scripture.
The most famous was Goliath.
A warrior so large and intimidating that an entire army was afraid of him.
Yet the Bible never says that Goliath was an extraterrestrial.
He was a man.
A giant, yes.
But a man.
The same is true of the descendants of Anak and the Rephaim mentioned in the Old Testament.
This raises an important question.
If the Nephilim, the giants, and heavenly beings exist in the Bible, could they somehow be related to the phenomena that some people today call extraterrestrials?
The truth is that no one can answer that question with absolute certainty.
And here we must be careful.
The declassified files released by the United States do not claim that the observed objects came from other planets.
Nor do they say they are spiritual beings.
They simply acknowledge that there are cases that still have no definitive explanation.
That is very different from proving the existence of extraterrestrials.
But perhaps we are asking the wrong question.
Maybe the question should not be whether intelligent beings exist somewhere in the universe.
Perhaps the better question is:
Who created the universe?
The Bible answers that question in its very first verse.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”
That means everything that exists—visible or invisible, known or unknown—is under God’s authority.
The Apostle Paul wrote:
“For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible.” (Colossians 1:16)
Notice those words.
Visible and invisible.
There are things we know.
There are things we do not yet know.
There are mysteries science has solved.
And there are mysteries that remain unanswered.
But none of them are outside God’s control.
Sometimes we become fascinated by the possibility of what may exist beyond the stars.
And there is nothing wrong with being curious.
God Himself created a universe so vast that we are only beginning to understand it.
Yet while the world looks toward the skies searching for answers, the Bible reminds us of something even more important.
The greatest mystery is not whether life exists on another planet.
The greatest miracle is that the God who created billions of galaxies chose to come into this world to save us.
Jesus Christ did not come to reveal the secrets of the universe.
He came to reconcile humanity to God.
Therefore, even if humanity were someday to discover life beyond Earth, it would not change the central message of the Gospel.
God would still be the Creator.
Christ would still be the Savior.
And our need for repentance and faith would remain exactly the same.
Somos Cristianos, connecting hearts with Christ.
