God did not abandon you — He only changed the path.

There was a plan. Your plan.

You knew exactly what your life was going to look like. You had it all clear in your mind. That job, that relationship, that house, that future you could see so clearly you could almost touch it with your hands.

And suddenly, something happened. A door closed. A person left. An opportunity never came. And the path you had mapped out disappeared from one moment to the next without asking your permission.

And in that moment, fear came. And after fear came the question we are often afraid to ask: Did God abandon me?

I want to answer that question today. And the answer is no.

God did not abandon you. He only changed the path.

There is a huge difference between those two things, even though from where you are standing right now, they may feel the same. When a path closes, the pain is real. The confusion is real. The fear is real. But that does not mean God let go of your hand. It means He is leading you down a different road than the one you had planned.

And that different road is not the wrong road. Sometimes it is the best road. The one you would have never found on your own.

Think of a river. Water does not stop when it finds a rock. It flows around the rock and keeps moving toward where it needs to go. It does not lose its destination. It only changes its route.

God does the same with you. When something blocks the path you had planned, He does not leave you standing there. He leads you another way. A way you could not see, but one He already knew before you were even born.

The Bible speaks about Paul, who had very clear plans to go preach in a region called Asia. And God stopped him. Twice. Paul did not understand why. But that same night, God showed him that he needed to go to Europe. And it was in Europe where the message of faith changed the history of the world forever.

If Paul had insisted on following his own path, history would have been completely different.

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” — Proverbs 16:9

That door that closed may have protected you from something you could not see. That relationship that ended may have set you free for something better. That plan that did not work may have pushed you toward the plan that truly had your name on it.

We will not always understand the reason in the moment it happens. But there is something we can choose: to trust that the One who holds the map knows exactly where He is taking us.

God did not abandon you in the middle of the road. He is walking with you. It is just that sometimes He changes the route without telling you first, because He knows that if He told you ahead of time, fear might not let you keep going.

If today you feel like you lost your way, like the path you had no longer exists, pray this with me:

“Lord, I do not understand where I am going. The path I had is no longer there, and I am afraid. But I choose to trust that You know every step I still need to take. Guide me. Even though I cannot see the whole road, help me trust that You can. Amen.”
