A man was released from prison after twenty years.
The day he walked through the main gate, he felt the air on his face, looked up at the sky, and smiled. For the first time in a long time, he was free.
But a few weeks later, he discovered something unexpected.
He was still living with hatred.
He was still carrying guilt.
He was still remembering the mistakes of the past.
He was still feeling like a prisoner inside.
He had walked out of a concrete prison, but he was still carrying a prison in his heart.
And the truth is, this also happens to many of us.
There are people who can go wherever they want, do whatever they want, and say whatever they want, but they are still slaves to fear.
Slaves to an addiction.
Slaves to resentment.
Slaves to anxiety.
Slaves to the opinions of others.
Slaves to wounds that happened years ago.
On the outside, they appear free. On the inside, they live in chains.
That is why Jesus said something extraordinary:
“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36
Notice that Jesus did not simply say, “You shall be free.”
He said, “You shall be free indeed.”
Because there is a freedom that money cannot buy.
A freedom that does not depend on a government, an economic situation, or the circumstances of life.
It is the freedom of a heart that has been forgiven.
The freedom to stop carrying guilt that Christ already carried on the cross.
The freedom to let go of the past.
The freedom to no longer live controlled by sin.
The freedom of knowing that, no matter what happens, we belong to God.
Maybe today no one can see the chains you carry inside.
Maybe you smile in front of everyone, but every night you fight thoughts that steal your peace.
Jesus did not come only to change your behavior. He came to break the chains that you cannot break through your own strength.
And when Christ sets a person free, the circumstances may not change immediately, but something changes inside that person forever.
Let me leave you with this reflection:
True freedom is not about doing everything we want. True freedom is about no longer being slaves to the things that destroy us. And that freedom can only be given by Jesus Christ.
I invite you to join me in this prayer.
Lord Jesus, you know the chains I still carry in my heart. Today I place them before you. Set me free from everything that takes me away from your peace and your purpose. Help me walk in the freedom that only you can give. Amen.
Somos Cristianos, connecting hearts with Christ.
