Mom, forgive me if I did not honor you the way God wanted me to.

Stay with me for a moment… because maybe this reflection is the opportunity your heart has been waiting for to ask for forgiveness before it is too late.

Mom, today I want to speak to you with my heart in my hands.

I am not here to justify myself.
I am not here to say I was right.
I am not here to hide my mistakes behind pride.

Today, I am here to ask you for forgiveness.

Forgive me for the times I spoke to you badly, when all you wanted was to take care of me. Forgive me for the times I did not value your advice, your sacrifices, your hidden tears, and your nights of worry. Forgive me because many times I saw your correction as a burden, when in reality it was love trying to save me from the wrong path.

The Word of God says: “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12

And today I understand that honoring you was not only about obeying you when I was little. Honoring you also meant speaking to you with respect, caring for you with love, listening to you with patience, thanking you with humility, and recognizing that God placed you in my life as a blessing.

Mom, forgive me if I made you cry.

Forgive me if you ever felt that your efforts were not worth it. Forgive me if my words hurt you more than I imagined. Sometimes we grow up, we fill ourselves with responsibilities, character, pride, and our own wounds… and without realizing it, we hurt the person who has loved us the most.

But today I want to tell you something from the deepest part of my heart: even though I did not always know how to show it, I love you.

I love you for every meal served with love.
I love you for every prayer you lifted up for me.
I love you for every piece of advice I did not understand at the time.
I love you for every sacrifice you made in silence.
I love you for not giving up on me, even when I was not easy to love.

The Bible says: “Love will cover a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8

And I ask God that His love would cover our wounds, our harsh words, our long silences, and everything that separated us. May He place humility where there was pride. May He place healing where there was pain. May He open a path of forgiveness where there was distance.

Mom, I do not want to wait until it is too late to tell you this. I do not want time to pass while my heart carries words I should have said. I do not want pride to steal from me the blessing of hugging you, listening to you, asking for your forgiveness, and starting again.

Maybe I cannot change the past, but I can come before God with a repentant heart and ask Him to teach me how to honor you better from now on.

Today I ask the Lord to bless your life, to heal the wounds I may have caused you, to fill you with peace, and to remind you how valuable you are. Because before being my mother, you are a beloved daughter of God. And if I ever forgot to treat you with the love you deserve, today I want to begin again.

Mom, forgive me.

Forgive me for what I said.
Forgive me for what I kept silent.
Forgive me for what I did.
Forgive me for what I failed to do.

And if there is still pain in your heart, I ask God to help you release it little by little. Not because it did not hurt, but because you also deserve to live in peace.

I leave you with this simple truth: no son or daughter loses dignity when asking their mother for forgiveness. On the contrary, when a child humbles themselves, recognizes their mistakes, and seeks reconciliation, God begins to do something beautiful in that family.

I invite you to join me in this prayer:

Lord Jesus, today I place my heart before You. I recognize that many times I failed, that I did not honor my mother as I should have, and that my words, my attitude, or my indifference may have caused her pain. I ask You for forgiveness first, Lord, and I also ask You to give me the humility to ask her for forgiveness.

Heal her heart. Heal mine. Break every pride, every distance, and every wound that has separated us. Help me love, value, and honor my mother while I still have the opportunity. May Your love be stronger than any mistake, and may Your peace return to our family.

Amen.

Mom, if you are reading this, I want you to know something: thank you for loving me even when I was not perfect. Thank you for not giving up. Thank you for being my mother.

Forgive me. I love you. And with God’s help, I want to honor you better.
