There’s a kind of tiredness that sleep doesn’t fix…
The kind that stays with you from the moment you open your eyes, that settles into your thoughts, that follows you even when you’re home. Your body is there… but inside, something already feels worn out.

Work stress isn’t always about working too much. Sometimes it’s about working with fear.
Fear of losing your job.
Fear of not being enough.
Fear of failing, of disappointing, of not measuring up.

And other times, it goes even deeper…
It’s giving your all… and feeling like you receive nothing.
It’s trying hard… and not being valued.
It’s doing the right thing… and still feeling the weight.

If we’re honest… this isn’t just a schedule problem… it’s a soul problem.

The Bible understands this better than we think.

In Genesis, we see that work was not created as a punishment. God created man and gave him purpose, responsibility, and work… but without pain. Work was part of a perfect design.

The problem came later… when sin entered.

“By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food…”

From that moment, work became heavy, frustrating, and sometimes unfair. Not because God designed it that way… but because the world became broken.

And you and I live in that broken world.

So what you feel is not weakness… it’s reality.

But here’s where many people get it wrong…
They try to solve a spiritual problem with human solutions.

Vacations, physical rest, changing jobs… they help, yes… but they don’t fix the root.

Because you can change jobs… and still carry the same tired heart with you.

The solution God offers is deeper.

In Matthew, Jesus doesn’t offer to remove your burdens… He offers something better:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you… for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

This is key…
Jesus does not promise a life without work…
He promises a life where you are no longer carrying it alone.

Here is the first truth that begins to heal work stress:
You were not designed to sustain your life with your own strength.

When you try, you burn out.
When you rest in God, something shifts inside.

Now… what does that look like in real life?

It’s not just saying “I trust God” and continuing the same way.
It’s a daily, intentional shift.

First: surrender control.

In Psalms it says:
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act.”

That means bringing your decisions, your worries, your outcomes to God.
Not only praying when things go wrong… but including Him in your day.

Before starting work… talk to Him.
When you feel pressure… release it in prayer.
When something goes wrong… don’t carry it alone.

Second: change your identity.

A lot of stress comes from believing your value depends on your performance.

But the Word teaches something completely different.

Your value is not in what you produce…
It’s in who you are in God.

If work fails… you are not a failure.
If no one recognizes you… God already knows you completely.

When this truth reaches your heart… work stops being a constant emotional burden.

Third: learn to truly rest.

And here is something many people don’t practice.

In Exodus, God establishes the principle of rest. Not because He gets tired… but because we do.

Rest is not wasting time… it is obedience to God.

Quiet your mind for a moment.
Disconnect from work without guilt.
Spend time with God without rushing.

That rest is not just physical… it’s spiritual. It’s where your soul returns to its place.

Fourth: trust God’s provision.

Much of stress comes from fear of the future.

But Jesus said clearly in Matthew:

“Do not worry about tomorrow… each day has enough trouble of its own.”

That’s not irresponsibility…
That’s trust.

You do your part… but you understand that the final outcome does not depend only on you.

And that lifts a huge weight.

Maybe today you don’t need to run away from your job…
Maybe you need to start working differently… from within.

With a surrendered heart.
With a firm identity.
With a real dependence on God.

I leave you with this reflection… because this is not just about surviving work… it’s about not losing yourself in the process.

I invite you to join me in this prayer:

Lord, You know my burden… You know what I feel even when I don’t say it. Today I surrender my work, my worries, my fears, and my thoughts to You. Forgive me for trying to control everything on my own. Teach me to rest in You, to trust in Your provision, and to remember every day that my life is in Your hands. Remove the anxiety that consumes me and fill me with Your peace that does not depend on circumstances. Help me to work with You, not without You. Amen.
