Everyone tells you the same thing.
Trust God. Have faith. Let it go. Put it in His hands.
And we hear that and nod our heads. But deep inside, there is a question we do not always dare to ask: But how? How do you actually do that in real life? How do you truly trust when you are afraid? When you do not know what is going to happen? When the problem does not disappear even though you pray every day?
I want to talk about that today. Because trusting God is not what many people think it is.
Trusting God does not mean you will not feel afraid.
Many people believe that if they truly trust God, fear will disappear. And when fear is still there, they feel like something is wrong with their faith. They think they are not trusting enough. But that is not true.
David, one of the greatest men of faith in the Bible, wrote psalms filled with fear, anguish, and unanswered questions. And still, he trusted God.
Trust is not the absence of fear. It is the decision to keep walking even when fear is still there.
Trusting God does not mean everything will turn out the way you want.
Sometimes we confuse trusting with negotiating. We pray, and deep down we expect that if we trust enough, God will do what we asked Him to do. And when it does not happen, we feel like trust did not work.
But trusting God is not a method to get what we want. It is recognizing that He knows more than we do. That His plan is better than ours, even when we do not understand it right now. That there are things He sees from above that we cannot see from where we are standing.
Trusting God does not mean doing nothing.
Some people think trusting means crossing your arms and waiting for God to solve everything. But the Bible shows us again and again that God works with people who move.
Noah trusted God and built the ark. The Israelites trusted God and walked around Jericho. Peter trusted Jesus and stepped out of the boat to walk on the water.
Trust does not paralyze you. It moves you. It leads you to take the next step even when you cannot see the whole road ahead.
So what does it really mean to trust God?
It means waking up in the morning without knowing how everything will be resolved and choosing to believe that He is still in control.
It means praying, not to convince God to do your will, but to align your heart with His.
It means releasing that thing you have been carrying for so long with clenched hands, and opening your hands even when you are afraid to let go.
It means honestly telling God: I do not understand what is happening. I am afraid. I do not know where I am going. But I choose to trust You anyway.
That is trust.
It is not a perfect feeling. It is an imperfect decision made every day.
And the most beautiful thing of all is that God does not ask you for perfect faith. He asks you for real faith. Honest faith. The faith of someone who has doubts but keeps walking. The faith of someone who is afraid but keeps praying. The faith of someone who does not understand but keeps trusting.
That small, imperfect, honest faith is enough for Him.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” — Proverbs 3:5-6
If today you feel like you do not know how to trust, like your faith is shaking, like you have more questions than answers, pray this with me:
“Lord, I want to trust You, but sometimes I do not know how. I am afraid. I have doubts. I do not understand everything that is happening in my life. But today I make the decision to put You before my own plans. Guide me. Hold me. And help me trust You, not only when everything is fine, but also when everything hurts. Amen.”
