There is a part of the Christian life that is rarely talked aboutโฆ
When believing is hard. Not when everything is going well, not when you feel peace, not when things fall into place.
But when you prayโฆ and see no answer. When you trustโฆ and things get worse. When you do the right thingโฆ and it still hurts.
That is where faith stops being a theoryโฆ and becomes real. Because anyone can say “God is good” when everything is in order. But saying it in the midst of painโฆ that is something else entirely.
The Bible is full of men and women who lived that kind of faith. Not a perfect faithโฆ but a faith that struggles, that doubts, that criesโฆ but does not let go of God. And in the midst of those stories, we find words that do more than just informโฆ they sustain.
- โWhy, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.โ (Psalm 42:11) Here we see something profound: the psalmist does not deny his sadnessโฆ he confronts it. He speaks to himself. He reminds himself who God is when his emotions want to take over. Hope is often not born from feelingโฆ it is born from a decision.
- โEven though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me.โ (Psalm 23:4) God does not promise to avoid the valleyโฆ He promises to walk with you inside it. And that completely changes the perspective. You are not lostโฆ you are accompanied.
- โBecause of the Lordโs great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.โ (Lamentations 3:22-23) This text was written in the middle of total ruin. Jerusalem destroyed, pain everywhere. And yet, the author finds something firm: God’s faithfulness does not depend on circumstances. Every day you wake upโฆ is evidence that God is not finished with you.
- โAnd we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love himโฆโ (Romans 8:28) It doesnโt say that everything is goodโฆ it says that everything works together. Even what you donโt understand, even what broke you, even what made you cry. God wastes nothing. He takes what is brokenโฆ and redeems it.
- โWho comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any troubleโฆโ (2 Corinthians 1:4) There is a purpose in your process. What hurts you today can be the tool you use to lift someone else up tomorrow. God doesnโt just heal youโฆ He prepares you.
- โSurely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraidโฆโ (Isaiah 12:2) Trust does not eliminate the problemโฆ it eliminates the dominion of fear. When you know who is with you, fear loses its strength.
- โBut those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eaglesโฆโ (Isaiah 40:31) Waiting on God is not doing nothingโฆ it is standing firm while He works. And in that process, something changes inside you: your strength is renewed.
- โMy grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weaknessโฆโ (2 Corinthians 12:9) This is uncomfortableโฆ but real. There are things God does not remove immediately because, in the midst of them, He reveals something greater: His power in you. Your weakness is not the endโฆ it is the point where God begins to show Himself.
- โCast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.โ (1 Peter 5:7) Not a partโฆ all of it. What worries you, what keeps you awake, what you donโt know how to solve. God doesnโt just listenโฆ He cares.
- โI have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.โ (John 16:33) Jesus never promised a life without problems. He promised something better: a peace that does not depend on them.
This is where everything becomes clearโฆ Hope is not that everything changes quickly. Hope is knowing that, even if nothing changes on the outsideโฆ God is working on the inside.
I leave you with this reflectionโฆ Do not despair to leave the process without understanding it. Sometimes what we most want God to take awayโฆ is exactly what He is using to shape us.
Maybe today you don’t see the purpose. Maybe today you only feel the weight. But that doesn’t mean God isn’t working.
He is never late. He never loses control. He never abandons what He started. And youโฆ are part of what He started.
I invite you to join me in this prayerโฆ Lord, today I come before You without masks. There are things that hurt me, that I donโt understand, that weary me. Sometimes my faith weakens and my mind fills with doubts. But even so, here I am. Not because I have everything clearโฆ but because I know You are my only hope. Sustain my heart when it feels weak. Renew my strength when I no longer feel like going on. Teach me to trust in the middle of the process, and to rest in Your will even if I donโt understand it. Today I release my burdens into Your handsโฆ and I choose to believe that You are still working. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
