The Bible is full of powerful stories and deep teachings. But if you read it carefully, you’ll also find moments that are surprising, unusual, and sometimes even a little mysterious. These details remind us that the Bible is not just a religious book — it is a living history filled with extraordinary events.
Here are ten curious things that appear in the Bible that many people don’t notice.
First, the Bible mentions creatures described as unicorns in some older translations. For example, in Numbers 23:22 and Job 39:9–10. The original Hebrew word likely referred to a powerful wild ox, an animal known for its great strength.
Second, the oldest man mentioned in the Bible lived 969 years. His name was Methuselah, and his long life is recorded in Genesis 5:27.
Third, there is a moment when a donkey speaks. In Numbers 22, Balaam’s donkey suddenly talks and rebukes him because he cannot see the angel standing in front of them. It is one of the most unexpected scenes in Scripture.
Fourth, the prophet Jonah was swallowed by a great fish and remained inside for three days and three nights before being released. This story appears in Jonah chapters 1 and 2.
Fifth, during a battle, the sun stood still. In Joshua 10:12–13, Joshua prayed, and God caused the sun to stop so Israel could finish the battle.
Sixth, Absalom, the son of King David, had extremely heavy hair. According to 2 Samuel 14:26, when it was cut once a year, it weighed about five pounds (around 2.3 kilograms).
Seventh, Samson defeated a thousand men with the jawbone of a donkey. This dramatic moment is recorded in Judges 15:15.
Eighth, a man named Uzzah died instantly when he touched the Ark of the Covenant. In 2 Samuel 6:6–7, he tried to steady it, but the Ark was sacred and not meant to be touched.
Ninth, the prophet Elijah was fed by ravens during a time of drought. According to 1 Kings 17:4–6, birds brought him bread and meat every day.
And tenth, the famous fall of Jericho’s walls happened without traditional weapons. The people of Israel marched around the city, blew trumpets, shouted, and the walls collapsed as described in Joshua 6.
These moments remind us that the Bible is full of powerful events that reveal God’s authority over nature, history, and human life. Sometimes the most curious stories carry the deepest lessons.
