Uziel never imagined that the day would come when he would wake up without finding a reason to keep going.
There was a time when his life was different.
He was a family man. He deeply loved his wife and children. He worked honestly, striving to be a good husband and a good father. Every Sunday, he was faithfully at church. He served with joy, participated in church activities, and loved talking about God with anyone who needed encouragement.
He wasn’t a perfect man.
But he had peace.
Then the trials began.
First came financial hardship. Then he lost opportunities he had waited years for. Family problems followed, along with illness, debt, and worries that never seemed to end.
At first, he thought everything would eventually get better.
But it didn’t.
One problem led to another.
And another.
And another.
The nights grew longer.
He barely slept.
His mind never stopped racing.
He smiled in front of everyone, but inside he was falling apart.
He still prayed…
But his prayers slowly turned into silence.
He felt that God no longer heard him.
He felt as though heaven had closed its doors.
Whenever someone asked how he was doing, he would answer,
“I’m fine.”
But the truth was…
he was slowly fading away.
He stopped going to church.
He stopped reading his Bible.
He stopped answering the calls of those who wanted to help him.
His wife tried to encourage him.
His children did everything they could to make him smile.
Several brothers and sisters from church came to visit him.
But Uziel had already built a wall around his heart.
He believed no one could possibly understand what he was going through.
Eventually, depression took hold.
Then discouragement.
Then hopelessness.
And finally, something even more dangerous:
He convinced himself there was no way out.
His body kept moving.
But inside…
he had already given up.
Months went by.
His sadness began to affect his physical health.
He barely ate.
He slept even less.
He lived under constant stress.
Then one morning, as he was getting ready to leave home, he felt a crushing pain in his chest.
He collapsed.
The paramedics did everything they could.
But it was too late.
Uziel died.
He left behind dreams that would never be fulfilled.
Hugs he would never give.
Words he would never say.
His wife became a widow.
His children grew up carrying an emptiness that could never truly be filled.
They didn’t just lose a father.
They lost the conversations, the advice, the laughter, the birthdays, the graduations, and countless moments he had dreamed of sharing with them.
The family went through extremely difficult times.
There were tears.
There was uncertainty.
There were questions no one could answer.
And as everyone mourned his passing, they all came to the same painful realization:
It wasn’t one single problem that destroyed Uziel.
It was allowing hopelessness to rule his heart day after day, refusing help, hiding his pain, and believing there was no hope left for him.
How different his story could have been if he had allowed someone to walk beside him.
How different things could have been if he had understood that asking for help is not a sign of weakness.
How different everything might have been if he had given himself one more chance.
But that day never came.
And his story ended far too soon.
Perhaps this story reminded you of someone…
Or perhaps, as you read it, you realized you were reading part of your own story.
We often think that hitting rock bottom happens overnight, but it rarely does. Most of the time, it begins with small compromises: we stop talking, we stop asking for help, we stop gathering with other believers, we stop praying… until one day we feel there is no way out.
If you are living through a struggle like this today, don’t keep it to yourself. Don’t carry that burden alone. God never intended for us to walk through life in isolation. He also uses family, the church, friends, and even trained professionals to help lift us when our strength is gone.
Don’t let Uziel’s story become your own.
And if you know someone who has withdrawn, who no longer smiles the way they used to, who stopped attending church, or who always says, “I’m fine,” perhaps God is reminding you today that a phone call, a visit, or a simple hug could arrive at exactly the right moment.
Don’t wait until it’s too late.
The Bible says:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18).
If this reflection touched your heart, I would love to hear from you. Share in the comments what season of life you’re walking through, or write the name of someone you’d like us to pray for. You are not alone. As a community, we want to stand with you in prayer and believe that God is still at work, even in life’s darkest nights.
I invite you to join me in this prayer. No matter where you are or how you feel today, if you have little strength left, let these words express the cry of your heart before God.
Heavenly Father, today I want to pray for every person who is struggling in silence. You know the weight they carry, the sleepless nights, the fear, the sadness, and the exhaustion that no one else can see.
Give them the strength to take one more step. Place people in their lives who will listen, support, and walk beside them. Help them not to isolate themselves or believe the lie that there is no hope.
And if someone has drifted away from You, remind them that as long as there is life, there is still an opportunity to seek You. Fill their hearts with Your peace and comfort, and teach us to notice those who are quietly suffering around us.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
