But sooner or later, an uncomfortable question arises: Can our faith be seen in the way we live?

James wrote clearly:

“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
— James 2:17

This does not mean that we can earn salvation by doing good deeds. The Bible teaches that we are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by our own merits. However, it also teaches that we were created in Christ to do good works.

Works are not the root of salvation; they are its fruit.

A person is not saved because they help those in need, forgive, love, or serve. But when Christ truly transforms someone’s heart, that transformation begins to show through their decisions.

Living faith does not simply tell someone who is suffering, “God bless you,” while ignoring their need. Living faith draws near, listens, shares, and helps within its means.

It is not enough to say that we believe in forgiveness while continuing to feed resentment. It is not enough to say that we trust God while deliberately living in disobedience. It is also not enough to speak about the love of Christ when we treat those around us with indifference or contempt.

This does not mean that a true believer is perfect. We all fail, struggle, and need God’s grace every day. But genuine faith does not remain motionless. It stumbles, but it gets back up. It makes mistakes, but it repents. It has weaknesses, but it desires to obey and become more like Jesus.

That is why the question is not only, “How many good works have I done?” The deeper question is: Is my relationship with Christ producing any real change in my life?

Perhaps today God is not asking you to do something extraordinary. Your act of faith may be forgiving someone, helping a person in need, keeping your word, leaving behind something you know is wrong, or showing compassion to someone everyone else ignores.

True faith speaks, but it also walks. It believes in Christ, and because it believes, it begins to live differently.

I invite you to join me in this prayer:

Lord, examine my heart and help me have a true, living, and obedient faith. Do not allow my words to be separated from my actions. Thank You that I am not saved by my own merits, but by Your grace through Jesus Christ. Transform my life so that my decisions, the way I love, and the way I serve reflect what You have done in me. Give me strength to obey You and to demonstrate my faith through sincere actions. In Jesus’ name, amen.

SomosCristianos — Conectando corazones con Cristo.

Saying that we have faith is easy, but true faith is revealed by the way we live.
