Today, when we think about followers of Jesus, we use words like Christians, believers, or disciples. But did you know that at the beginning, they weren’t called any of those names?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before the name “Christian” became widely known, the followers of Jesus were identified as \u201cThe Way.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Bible mentions this title several times. For example, when the apostle Paul was still persecuting the church, he requested letters authorizing him to arrest anyone who belonged to the Way (Acts 9:2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Why were they called that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because for them, following Jesus was not simply adopting a religion. It was an entirely new way of living. Their decisions, their words, the way they loved, forgave, and served reflected the path Christ had taught them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And Jesus Himself had said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.\u201d (John 14:6)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n That is why those early believers understood that they were not merely following a doctrine. They were following a Person: Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Years later, in Antioch, the disciples were first called \u201cChristians\u201d (Acts 11:26). But before that, they were known as men and women who walked in the footsteps of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And here is a question for us today:<\/p>\n\n\n\n If someone observed your life for a week, would they be able to tell that you are walking in the way of Christ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because being a Christian is not just about carrying a name. It is about following the Savior every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Before we finish, I want to leave you with this thought: God did not call you only to believe in Jesus, but also to walk with Him. Every decision, every word, and every step is an opportunity to show that we follow the Way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
