The kind that comes when there is no time left, when someone lowers their eyes and can only say, “We did everything we could.” In that moment, the world stops, and no matter how strong you are, something inside you breaks.

Jairus knew that fear. His daughter, only twelve years old, was dying. And he, a respected man, a leader of the synagogue, did something his pride had probably never allowed him to do before: he ran. He ran through the crowd, pushed his way forward, and when he finally reached Jesus, that important man fell to his knees in the dust and begged Him with his whole soul: “My little daughter is dying. Come and place Your hands on her, so she may live.”

Jesus looked at him and began walking with him. But along the way, there was a delay. A sick woman touched His garment, Jesus stopped, and while He was speaking with her, time kept running. Imagine Jairus’ anguish. Every second felt like an eternity. His little girl was dying at home, and the only One who could save her had stopped.

Then the worst news arrived. Some men came to Jairus and told him what every parent fears hearing: “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher anymore?”

It is too late. Those words fall like a heavy stone on the heart. It is the same voice we so often hear inside: there is nothing left to do, you have already lost it, the opportunity has passed, just give up. But Jesus, who heard every word, looked Jairus in the eyes and said something that still speaks today to anyone who needs it: “Do not be afraid; only believe.”

When they arrived at the house, everything was filled with crying and confusion. People were weeping loudly. Jesus entered and said, “The child is not dead, but asleep.” And they laughed at Him. They mocked Him. Because to human eyes, the situation already had a name and an ending. But Jesus sent them all outside, entered the room where the little girl was, took her by the hand, and with a tenderness only God can have, said to her: “Talitha cumi,” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” And immediately, the girl got up and began to walk.

But do you know what moves me most about this story? It is not only the miracle. It is the final detail. After bringing her back to life, Jesus said something so simple and so human: “Give her something to eat.” In the middle of the extraordinary, He noticed the small thing. He cared that the little girl might be hungry. That is what the love of God is like: He raises you up, and He also cares about your plate of food. He does not only do the great things; He also cares for the smallest details of your life.

And maybe today you came here carrying a similar kind of news. Maybe there is something in your life that you have already considered dead. A dream, a marriage, a relationship, your faith, the desire to keep going. Maybe many around you have already told you, “It is too late for you.” But I want to remind you of something: what is dead in the eyes of people is only sleeping before Jesus. He is never late. He arrives at the exact moment, when no one believes anymore, just to show you that His power does not depend on your circumstances, but on His love for you.

Do not give up before He speaks. Keep your hand extended toward Him, like Jairus, even when everything screams that there is no hope left. Because the same voice that said, “Little girl, arise,” can still speak your name today.

Today I want to invite you to pray with me, with simple words but from the heart: “Lord Jesus, today I bring before You what I had already considered lost. Where others see death, I know You see life. Take my hand as You took that little girl’s hand, and say to me as well: arise. I believe; help me believe more. Amen.”

If you prayed with me and you feel that Jesus is not finished writing your story, leave an “Amen” in the comments and share this reflection. Maybe someone who was ready to give up needs to remember today that for God, it is never too late.

Somos Cristianos, connecting hearts with Christ.

When everyone said, “It is too late,” Jesus told Jairus, “Do not be afraid; only believe.”

The story of Jairus’ daughter reminds us that nothing is truly lost when Jesus is present.
