true role of in-laws in their children\u2019s marriage."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pause for a moment\u2026 because this is not just another reflection.<br>This can determine whether a marriage grows stronger\u2026 or quietly falls apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is something many parents don\u2019t accept, and because of that, they hurt without realizing it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">their children have grown up\u2026 and they no longer belong to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They didn\u2019t stop loving them.<br>They didn\u2019t stop honoring them.<br>But they are no longer under their authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bible says it clearly in Genesis 2:24:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTherefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That word \u201cleave\u201d is not optional.<br>It is God\u2019s design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this is where the true role of a father-in-law and mother-in-law begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not to direct their children\u2019s lives.<br>It is not to correct every decision.<br>It is not to have an opinion about everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is to accept that their place has changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this is hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because for years you taught, corrected, guided\u2026<br>and suddenly you have to take a step back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But that step back\u2026<br>is not loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is obedience to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because when in-laws do not understand this, problems begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Constant comments.<br>Unasked opinions.<br>Comparisons.<br>Criticism disguised as concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And little by little\u2026 the marriage begins to weaken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This must be said clearly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An in-law who doesn\u2019t let go\u2026 can weaken their own child\u2019s marriage, even with good intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now let\u2019s talk about real life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are couples who don\u2019t start under ideal conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unexpected pregnancies.<br>Lack of resources.<br>Lack of preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And they end up living in the in-laws\u2019 house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is an uncomfortable truth:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the house has an owner\u2026 and the owner has authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But that authority has limits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because one thing is maintaining order in your home\u2026<br>and something very different is controlling your child\u2019s marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A wise in-law understands this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They may set house rules\u2026<br>but they should not interfere in the couple\u2019s relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They should not take sides.<br>They should not step into arguments.<br>They should not manipulate decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because if they do\u2026 they are not helping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are weakening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now let\u2019s look at another situation\u2026 just as delicate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the parents move in with the couple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of illness.<br>Because of age.<br>Because they are alone.<br>Because they need support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here another biblical principle comes in:<br>honor and care for your parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yes\u2026 receiving them can be an act of deep love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is also a truth that cannot be ignored:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the home they are entering already has an order established by God: the marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why the role of in-laws in that moment is crucial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They do not come to direct.<br>They do not come to correct.<br>They do not come to impose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They come to adapt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They come to respect.<br>They come to protect the peace of the home that welcomed them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because if they don\u2019t understand that\u2026<br>they end up damaging the very house that opened its doors to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And here is something almost no one says\u2026 but it must be said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not everything done out of love\u2026 is done the right way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are marriages that, in trying to help parents, lose their unity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They argue more.<br>They lose privacy.<br>They wear down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And little by little\u2026 love grows cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So what should be done?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wisdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Clear boundaries.<br>Mutual respect.<br>Honest conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because caring for parents\u2026<br>should never mean destroying the marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also important to exhort parents\u2014in this case, in-laws:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While you still have health and ability\u2026 make a plan for your own life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do not expect to depend on your children as your first option.<br>Do not assume you will live with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your children already have their own home, responsibility, and journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yes, if the time comes due to illness or real need, children can and should help with love.<br>But even in those cases\u2026 guard your place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Support without invading.<br>Accompany without controlling.<br>Love without interfering in the marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because being help\u2026 is not being a burden.<br>And loving your children also means not placing on them a weight that is not theirs to carry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, there is another silent but very damaging mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When in-laws compete with the spouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mother who does not accept the wife.<br>The father who discredits the husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And they begin to plant doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Small comments\u2026<br>but constant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And that divides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because the child is caught in the middle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And a divided heart\u2026<br>cannot sustain a strong marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, what is the true role of in-laws?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be support\u2026 not authority.<br>To be counsel\u2026 only when asked.<br>To be an example\u2026 not pressure.<br>To be a blessing\u2026 not a burden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And above all\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be wise enough to know when to speak\u2026 and when to remain silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, there is a deep truth that cannot be ignored:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God\u2019s original design is not for a marriage to live with parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It does not say \u201che will bring his father and mother.\u201d<br>It says \u201che will leave.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because marriage needs freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Freedom to make decisions.<br>Freedom to make mistakes.<br>Freedom to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why the ideal is for the couple to build their own home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even if it is small.<br>Even if it is simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But let it be theirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everything else\u2026<br>are special situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when they happen\u2026<br>they must be handled with spiritual maturity, not just emotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let me leave you with this reflection\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes parents think loving means always being present\u2026<br>but many times loving means knowing when to step back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not abandonment\u2026<br>it is trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not stopping helping\u2026<br>it is helping the right way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because letting go is not losing a child\u2026<br>it is allowing them to build the home God designed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I invite you to join me in this prayer\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lord, give us wisdom to understand our place within the family.<br>Teach parents to let go without stopping loving.<br>Remove all pride, control, and the need to interfere.<br>Make us in-laws who bless, who build, and who do not divide.<br>And allow our children to build strong, free, and peaceful marriages according to Your
