Sometimes when you read the New Testament carefully\u2026 you begin to notice something uncomfortable: God is not looking for impressive leaders\u2026 He is forming men and women who have first been shaped by Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because Christian leadership does not begin in public\u2026 it begins in private.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this is where everything changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus said it without softening it, and almost no one wants to fully accept it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave.\u201d (Matthew 20:26-27)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s not a nice phrase\u2026 it\u2019s a principle that confronts pride.
Because the world teaches you to climb\u2026 but Christ teaches you to go down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And if we\u2019re honest\u2026 going down is hard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s hard when you know you\u2019re capable, when you could take control, when you could impose your authority\u2026 but instead you choose to serve, to stay quiet, to wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s where true leadership begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Look at what Paul the Apostle wrote to his disciple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNow the overseer is to be above reproach\u2026\u201d (1 Timothy 3:2)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Interesting\u2026 it doesn\u2019t start with talent or charisma.
It starts with character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because in God\u2019s Kingdom\u2026 who you are matters more than what you do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And here\u2019s something even deeper:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBe shepherds of God\u2019s flock that is under your care\u2026 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.\u201d (1 Peter 5:2-3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That changes everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Christian leader does not control\u2026 he guides.
He does not dominate\u2026 he sets an example.
He does not use people\u2026 he cares for them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But here\u2019s the part almost no one says\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To live this way, God has to deal with you first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can know the Bible\u2026 and still be full of pride.
You can preach\u2026 and still seek recognition.
You can lead\u2026 and still not be surrendered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s why many start\u2026 but few remain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because there comes a moment when God is not interested in what you do\u2026 but in what is inside of you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that\u2019s where many stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because it\u2019s easier to teach others\u2026 than to let God correct you.
It\u2019s easier to appear spiritual\u2026 than to live with integrity when no one is watching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the New Testament is clear:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDo nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.\u201d (Philippians 2:3)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s not natural\u2026 that\u2019s supernatural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That can only happen in someone who truly understands Christ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because in the end\u2026 Christian leadership is not about you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s about reflecting Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The One who had all authority\u2026 yet chose to wash feet.
The One who could have been served\u2026 yet chose to serve.
The One who was King\u2026 yet chose the cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then you begin to understand something\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s not about becoming a leader\u2026
it\u2019s about becoming like Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let me leave you with this thought\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe God is not looking for more prepared people\u2026 but for more surrendered hearts. People He can shape, correct, and use\u2026 not for their own glory, but for Christ\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because when a leader understands this\u2026 he stops trying to shine\u2026 and starts living to obey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I invite you to join me in this prayer\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lord, work in my heart before placing me in front of others. Cleanse me from pride, wrong intentions, and the need for recognition. Teach me to serve as You served, to love as You loved, and to live in obedience even when it costs me. Shape in me a character that honors You, and if one day You entrust me with people, never let me forget that I am still Your servant. Amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
