And if you really think about it, that’s something deeply serious… and at the same time, deeply intimate.

If I’m honest with you, the problem isn’t that God doesn’t speak.
The problem is that we expect Him to speak the way we want.

In the Bible, God never limited Himself to just one way of communicating. He’s not predictable… He’s relational.

In 1 Kings 19, the prophet Elijah is broken, tired, ready to give up. And God chooses to speak to him… but not in something spectacular. Not in the strong wind, not in the earthquake, not in the fire… but in a gentle whisper.
That’s one of the first keys: God doesn’t always compete with noise… many times He waits for you to be still.

But then you see Moses in Exodus 3, and God speaks through a burning bush. Visible. Undeniable.
And you realize something… God can speak loudly… but He doesn’t always choose to.

To Samuel, as a child, God calls him by name in the night (1 Samuel 3).
To Joseph, He speaks through dreams (Matthew 1).
To Paul, He stops him with a light and a voice that brings him to the ground (Acts 9).
And to others… He simply spoke through His Word.

Now… bringing it down to your life, clearly and directly:
God can speak to you through the Bible, when a verse confronts you or guides you exactly in what you’re going through.
He can speak through a deep peace… or an inner unrest that won’t let you move forward.
He can speak through circumstances: doors that open effortlessly or close no matter how hard you try.
He can speak through people: a word, advice, a message that comes right on time.
He can speak in the quiet within: a clear, clean thought that doesn’t come from fear or impulse… but from a calm conviction.
Even, as in the Bible, He can use dreams or very specific moments… but that’s not the usual. The usual is the simple.

There are people who say, “God spoke to me”… and if they don’t explain it, sometimes it sounds strange, even crazy.
But once you understand it, everything changes.
God can speak to you while reading the Bible, visiting a Christian website, listening to a friend, a pastor… or even through the least expected person: a child, someone you barely know, or even someone you have problems with.
God uses whatever He wants, whenever He wants. Nothing limits Him.

So… if God speaks in so many ways, how do you know it’s Him?

This is where it gets deeper… and more honest.

God’s voice is not always the loudest… but it is the truest.

It’s not always the most comfortable… but it is the most right.

It won’t always excite you… but it will always transform you.

There’s a very clear difference between God’s voice and every other voice:
God’s voice reveals, confronts, and at the same time heals.

For example…
when an idea comes from you, it usually tries to justify you.
When it comes from God… it aligns you.

When it’s your emotions… it pushes you quickly.
When it’s God… it gives you conviction without pressure.

When it’s fear… it paralyzes you or makes you run.
When it’s God… it may make you uncomfortable, but it holds you with peace.

And here’s something almost no one wants to accept:
Many times God has already spoken… but we don’t accept it because we don’t like what He said.

We want Him to confirm our plans, not change them.

We want direction… without surrender.

We want to hear… but not obey.

And then we say, “God doesn’t speak to me.”

But He did speak… in that discomfort you felt.
In that conviction that didn’t go away.
In that door that didn’t open.
In that peace that came when you made a certain decision.

The Bible says it clearly in Hebrews 4:12:
“For the word of God is living and active… it judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
That means when God speaks… He doesn’t just inform you… He exposes you.

And that hurts… but it’s necessary.

Because hearing God is not just about receiving direction…
it’s about allowing Him to transform you.

Let me leave you with this reflection…
Maybe you’ve been waiting for God to speak in a specific way…
but He’s already speaking in many ways… you just haven’t recognized them.

Maybe it’s not a lack of His voice…
maybe it’s a lack of stillness.

Maybe it’s not that God is far…
maybe there’s too much noise inside you.

Maybe it’s not that God hasn’t answered…
maybe He already did… and you keep asking.

I invite you to join me in this prayer…

Lord, teach me to hear You beyond my expectations. Remove from me the need for spectacular signs and give me a heart sensitive to the way You speak. Bring silence into my inner world, order my thoughts, and help me recognize Your voice in the simple, in the deep, in the true. And when You speak to me… give me the courage to obey, even when it’s not easy. Amen.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” – John 10:27

At Somos Cristianos, we connect hearts with Christ.

How do you know if God is really speaking to you?
