Stay with me for a moment\u2026 because what happened that day was not normal. It wasn\u2019t just a death. It was as if heaven itself reacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bible tells us something brief, yet deeply powerful:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFrom noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land.\u201d (Matthew 27:45)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n That means from midday until 3:00 p.m.\u2026 there was darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, the question comes up: The Bible doesn\u2019t give a precise geographic detail, but the phrase \u201cover all the land\u201d can be understood as a widespread darkness, at least across the entire region. It wasn\u2019t something small or local. Everyone noticed. It was something out of the ordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And here\u2019s what matters\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n It wasn\u2019t an eclipse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A solar eclipse cannot last three hours, and besides, Passover (when Jesus was crucified) happens during a full moon, which makes a solar eclipse impossible. So this was not a common natural phenomenon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So\u2026 what was it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was a sign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But not just any sign. It was a sign from heaven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That moment marked something that had never happened before: He wasn\u2019t only suffering physically on the cross\u2026 That\u2019s why, in the middle of that darkness, Jesus said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy God, my God, why have you forsaken me?\u201d (Matthew 27:46)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n That phrase is not just human pain\u2026 it\u2019s a spiritual mystery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In that moment, the One who had never been separated from the Father was carrying the sin of all humanity. As if creation itself were saying: There\u2019s something that really makes me think\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n When God created the world, He said, \u201cLet there be light\u201d\u2026 That\u2019s not a coincidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Light represents life, presence, order. But not judgment on us\u2026 Jesus was taking our place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While the people around Him may not have fully understood what was happening\u2014some mocking, some crying, others confused\u2014heaven did.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And it responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Not with words\u2026 Three hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Three hours where time seemed to stand still. That darkness happened while Jesus was still alive on the cross, from noon until three in the afternoon, and after that time was when He gave up His spirit. It wasn\u2019t something random or isolated, because centuries earlier something similar had already been announced: \u201cI will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight\u201d (Amos 8:9). It\u2019s as if God had already left a sign ahead of time for that moment, where in the middle of the day there would be darkness\u2014not as a natural event, but as a spiritual manifestation of the weight Jesus was carrying.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n After that\u2026 everything changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jesus gave up His spirit. But before all of that\u2026 there was darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As if the whole world paused to recognize what was happening on that cross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And here\u2019s the personal part\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n That darkness was not the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because three days later\u2026 the light came.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Let me leave this in your heart\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes in life there are moments of darkness we don\u2019t understand. Moments where it feels like God is silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But the cross teaches us something powerful: Even in the darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I invite you to pause and think about this\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n If Jesus was willing to go through that darkness for you\u2026 And now, if you can, join me in this prayer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lord, thank You for what You did on the cross. Was it the whole world? Just Jerusalem? What exactly happened?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus was carrying the sin of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was experiencing the deepest moment of spiritual separation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the darkness\u2026 seemed to reflect exactly that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSomething sacred is happening\u2026 something terrible\u2026 something necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
but at the cross, when sin was being confronted head-on\u2026 there was darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Darkness, in this context, reflected judgment, pain, and spiritual weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
on Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
but with darkness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Three hours where heaven wasn\u2019t celebrating\u2026 it was silent.
Three hours where the love of God was doing the hardest thing:
rescuing humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The veil of the temple was torn.
The earth shook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
even when you don\u2019t see it\u2026 God is working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
how much are you worth to Him?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thank You because in that dark moment, You were thinking of me.
Even when I don\u2019t understand what I\u2019m going through, help me trust that You are still working.
Give me peace in the middle of my difficult moments\u2026
and remind me that after darkness, Your light always comes.
