There\u2019s a question many people don\u2019t say out loud\u2026 but they feel it deep inside:
when things go wrong, when sickness comes, when life gets hard\u2026 is God punishing me?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s an honest question. And if we\u2019re real about it, we\u2019ve all thought it at some point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because many of us grew up with the idea that God is ready to correct us harshly, almost like He\u2019s waiting for us to fail so He can \u201cpay us back.\u201d But when you stop and truly look at the Bible\u2026 the story is much deeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Old Testament, we do see moments where God judges and disciplines entire nations. But it wasn\u2019t impulsive or emotional punishment. It was justice in response to constant, conscious, and repeated evil. It wasn\u2019t a God losing His patience\u2026 it was a God responding to human choices that completely rejected what is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, when we come to Jesus, something becomes very clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus didn\u2019t come to punish\u2026 He came to save.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFor God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.\u201d (John 3:17)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That changes everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, does God punish or not?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The answer isn\u2019t as simple as \u201cyes\u201d or \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God is not an abusive father who punishes out of anger. But He is not indifferent either.
God corrects\u2026 and that\u2019s very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bible says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFor the Lord disciplines the one He loves.\u201d (Hebrews 12:6)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this is where many people get confused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Discipline is not punishment.
Discipline is formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Punishment seeks to make you pay.
Discipline seeks to help you grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God is not trying to destroy you\u2026 He is shaping you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sometimes what we go through is not God\u2019s punishment, but the consequence of our own decisions. And other times, they are processes God allows to mold us, to make us stronger, more humble, more dependent on Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Think about it this way\u2026
A loving father doesn\u2019t let his child do whatever he wants without consequences. But he also doesn\u2019t hurt him for everything. He guides him, corrects him, forms him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s who God is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The problem is that many times we interpret pain as rejection\u2026 when it might actually be direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus Himself spoke about this when He said the Father prunes the branches so they can bear more fruit. And pruning hurts\u2026 but it doesn\u2019t destroy, it produces life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So when you\u2019re going through something difficult, instead of asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIs God punishing me?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe a better question would be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGod, what are You trying to teach me through this?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because that changes everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not everything bad that happens is punishment.
Not everything difficult means God has stepped away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sometimes, right in the middle of the process\u2026 is where He is closest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let me leave you with this thought to reflect on in your heart:
God is not against you. He\u2019s not looking for ways to make you fall. He is working, even in what you don\u2019t understand, to take you somewhere better\u2026 even if the process is uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And if you\u2019ve ever doubted that\u2026 look at the cross.
There\u2019s no punishment for you there\u2026 there\u2019s love that paid the price for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I invite you to join me in this prayer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lord, sometimes I don\u2019t understand what I\u2019m going through.
Sometimes I feel fear, doubts\u2026 and even think You\u2019re against me.
But today I choose to trust You.
If I\u2019m going through a process, teach me.
If I need correction, show me with love.
And if I just need to wait\u2026 give me peace.
Help me not to see everything as punishment, but as part of Your purpose in my life.
