Sometimes we read a verse so often\u2026 that we stop truly understanding it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSeek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you\u201d sounds beautiful. It sounds like a promise. But if we\u2019re honest\u2026 it can also feel a little confusing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because we think:
\u201cSo if I seek God, He\u2019s going to give me money, a house, success?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that\u2019s where many people get it wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let\u2019s slow down\u2026 because Jesus was not talking about what many assume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This verse is in Matthew 6:33, but it doesn\u2019t start there. Jesus had been talking about something very specific: anxiety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before saying that phrase, He says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cDo not worry about your life\u2026 what you will eat or what you will wear\u2026\u201d
And He gives simple examples: the birds of the air, the lilies of the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus was addressing something very human\u2026
people living in constant fear, worried about tomorrow, carrying a burden they couldn\u2019t control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And right in the middle of that, He says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSeek first the kingdom of God\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In other words\u2026 He wasn\u2019t giving a formula to become rich.
He was giving a direction to live in peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Jesus talks about the \u201ckingdom of God,\u201d He\u2019s not referring to a physical place.
He\u2019s talking about God\u2019s rule in your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
God becomes your true priority
His will is above yours
You live according to what He wants, not just what you feel<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then He says something that changes everything:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cand His righteousness\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is key.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He doesn\u2019t say \u201cseek blessings\u201d\u2026
He says seek to live rightly before God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seek a life that is sincere, aligned with Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now comes the important part:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cand all these things will be added to you\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What does \u201call these things\u201d mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Go back to the context:
food, clothing, daily needs\u2026 what is necessary to live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus is not promising luxury.
He is promising care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\u2019s not saying:
\u201cfollow me and I\u2019ll make you rich\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\u2019s saying:
\u201ctrust me and you won\u2019t lack what you truly need\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that completely changes the meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because many of us live the opposite way\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First we seek:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
stability
money
security
control<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And if there\u2019s time left\u2026 we seek God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus says:
reverse the order<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First God.
First His will.
First living rightly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And the rest\u2026 won\u2019t be your burden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It doesn\u2019t mean there won\u2019t be problems.
It doesn\u2019t mean everything will be easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It means you won\u2019t live with the same anxiety anymore\u2026 because you\u2019ll know who is in control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this is where it becomes personal\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can pray, read the Bible, go to church\u2026
and still live worried, afraid, trying to fix everything on your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s not seeking first the kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seeking the kingdom means letting go of control\u2026 even when it\u2019s hard.
It means trusting\u2026 even when you don\u2019t see clearly.
It means obeying\u2026 even when it\u2019s not convenient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s telling God:
\u201cLord, before anything else\u2026 I choose You.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that\u2026 is not easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But that\u2019s where everything begins to change inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let me leave you with this reflection:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe you\u2019re not wrong for worrying\u2026
you\u2019re human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But it may be that you\u2019re carrying something that was never yours to carry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus didn\u2019t ask you to solve life.
He asked you to trust Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And when that happens\u2026
problems don\u2019t disappear\u2026
but they no longer control you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I invite you to pray this, simply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lord, sometimes I worry more than I should.
I try to control everything\u2026 and I end up tired.
Today I choose to give You my burdens.
Teach me to truly seek You first, not just with words.
Help me trust that You know what I need\u2026 even before I understand it.
Order my life, my priorities, and my heart.
And help me live in Your peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
