Stay with me for a moment\u2026 because this phrase from Jesus, if not understood correctly, can confuse you\u2026 or even scare you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some people think Jesus was against the rich. Others believe that having money is a sin. But if we read carefully, with an open heart, we discover that Jesus was not talking about money\u2026 He was talking about something deeper: the heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It all begins with a very human story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A young man approaches Jesus. He wasn\u2019t just anyone. He was a \u201cgood\u201d person on the outside: he kept the commandments, lived a moral life, and\u2026 he had great wealth. He wanted to know what he still lacked to inherit eternal life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jesus looked at him\u2026 and there is something here we should not overlook: the Bible says Jesus loved him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He didn\u2019t judge him. He didn\u2019t reject him. He loved him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And then He said something that touched the deepest part of his life:
\u201cSell everything you have, give to the poor\u2026 and follow Me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The young man walked away sad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not because Jesus was harsh\u2026 but because there was something in his heart he wasn\u2019t willing to let go of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s when Jesus says this powerful statement:
\u201cIt is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When Jesus speaks about the \u201ceye of a needle,\u201d He is most likely referring to a literal sewing needle, something extremely small. It was a clear and exaggerated way to teach a truth: something completely impossible for human beings. Some have suggested it referred to a small gate in the city walls where a camel could barely pass, but that idea does not have strong historical support from the time of Jesus. The most accepted understanding is that Jesus used an intentionally impossible image to shake the hearts of those listening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you think about it\u2026 it\u2019s an impossible image. A camel cannot go through the eye of a needle. It\u2019s absurd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that is exactly what Jesus wanted to communicate: it is not difficult\u2026 it is impossible.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n But not because God rejects the rich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s because when the heart is full of security in material things, it no longer feels the need for God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The problem is not having\u2026 it\u2019s depending on what you have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Money gives a false sense of control. It makes you think you can solve everything, that you don\u2019t need anyone, that your future is secure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And little by little\u2026 without realizing it\u2026 the heart becomes hardened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s why the disciples were shocked and said: And here comes the key to everything: Jesus didn\u2019t close the door\u2026 He opened it completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because in the end, this is not about being rich or poor\u2026 it\u2019s about surrender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I have seen people with very little, yet with a proud heart\u2026 and I have also seen people with a lot, yet with a heart surrendered to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n God does not measure what you have in your hands\u2026 He measures what rules your heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Sometimes it\u2019s not millions\u2026 sometimes it\u2019s a job, a relationship, a dream\u2026 something we are not willing to let go of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We live in a world that pushes us to have more, achieve more, and depend more on ourselves. We are taught to trust in money, in stability, in \u201cI can do it on my own.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n But Jesus still whispers: Not because He wants to take something from you\u2026 but because He wants to give you something greater: freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because when you depend on God, you find rest. And that\u2026 that is priceless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Let me leave you with this reflection\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t ask how much you have\u2026 ask how willing you are to let go of what pulls you away from God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Don\u2019t ask if you are rich or poor\u2026 ask who rules your heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because in the end, it\u2019s not money that closes the door\u2026 it\u2019s the lack of surrender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And if today you feel like there\u2019s something you\u2019re struggling to let go of\u2026 don\u2019t condemn yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Give it to Him little by little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Join me in this prayer\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Lord, You know my heart better than anyone. Jesus answered:
\u201cWith man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFollow Me\u2026 even if you have to let go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When you trust Him, you stop carrying the burden of trying to control everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You know what I have\u2026 and You also know what I cling to.
Help me not to depend on material things, nor on my own strength, nor on what I think I can control.
Teach me to truly trust in You.
If there is anything taking Your place in my life, show it to me\u2026 and give me the strength to let it go.
I don\u2019t want anything to pull me away from You.
I want to follow You with a free heart.
