Pause for a moment\u2026 because this story is not as ancient as it seems.
It\u2019s more current than you think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are people who grow fast, who achieve great things, who influence many\u2026
and from the outside, everything looks admirable.
But deep inside\u2026 something isn\u2019t right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s how the story of Nimrod begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bible mentions him in Genesis 10:8\u201312, right in the middle of genealogies, almost like just another detail\u2026 but he\u2019s not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That small detail changes everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nimrod was the first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first to rise as a figure of power after the flood.
The first to establish dominance.
The first to mark a different path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was not just any man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Scripture says he was a \u201cmighty hunter before the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And here we need to slow down\u2026 because that phrase is deeper than it sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Hebrew, the expression suggests more than just hunting animals.
Many scholars agree it points to someone who pursues, dominates, subdues\u2026 not just beasts, but people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A leader\u2026 but not necessarily led by God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A strong man\u2026 but possibly driven by his own will.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that begins to reveal something important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nimrod didn\u2019t just have strength\u2026 he had ambition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bible also tells us he founded cities:
Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That was not normal at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the flood, God had given humanity a clear instruction:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBe fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.\u201d (Genesis 9:1)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But Nimrod does the opposite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Instead of spreading out\u2026 he gathers.
Instead of expanding\u2026 he centralizes.
Instead of obeying\u2026 he establishes control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this is where the story connects with something even deeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because in that same place\u2026 in Shinar\u2026 Babel rises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And in Genesis 11, we see what was really in the heart of the people:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCome, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That phrase\u2026 says everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet us make a name for ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It doesn\u2019t say: \u201clet us honor God.\u201d
It doesn\u2019t say: \u201clet us seek His will.\u201d
It doesn\u2019t say: \u201clet us depend on Him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It says: let us\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is the spirit of Nimrod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A spirit that doesn\u2019t need God to move forward.
A spirit that wants to reach heaven\u2026 but without surrender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And although the Bible doesn\u2019t directly say that Nimrod built the tower, everything in the context points to him as the leader behind that movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first organized human system\u2026 with God removed from the center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And if we\u2019re honest\u2026 that still happens today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We live in a generation that values success, influence, recognition\u2026
but often without God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People who say they believe\u2026 but live as if God were optional.
Who pray\u2026 but decide on their own.
Who seek blessings\u2026 but not direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And without realizing it\u2026 we begin to build our own towers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Towers of money.
Towers of pride.
Towers of control.
Towers of \u201cI can do it on my own.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And everything seems to be working\u2026 until God intervenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not to destroy us\u2026 but to stop us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because God didn\u2019t stop Babel out of anger\u2026
He stopped it out of love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because He knew that a united heart\u2026 without Him\u2026 can become completely lost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So He confused their language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He scattered them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He broke that system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And here comes the strongest lesson\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not everything that grows\u2026 comes from God.
Not everything that works\u2026 is right before Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nimrod had success.
He had power.
He had influence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But he did not have God\u2019s approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that\u2026 is dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because today we can live the same way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We can have family, business, projects, even ministry\u2026
and still be building something where God is not the foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And there\u2019s something that confronts us\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bible says Nimrod was mighty \u201cbefore the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meaning\u2026 God saw everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nothing was hidden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that includes us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You can go to church\u2026
you can talk about God\u2026
you can even serve\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and still be building something that didn\u2019t come from Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before you continue, let me leave you with this reflection\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What you are building today\u2026 was it born in prayer\u2026 or in your own idea?
Are you seeking God\u2026 or just hoping He blesses what you already decided?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because there is a big difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A life led by God\u2026
and a life lived before God\u2026 but without surrender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I invite you to pray this with me, honestly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lord\u2026 examine my heart.
If I am building anything without You, show me.
Remove from me the desire to make a name for myself\u2026
and teach me to live for Yours.
I don\u2019t want to move forward if You are not with me.
I\u2019d rather go slowly with You\u2026 than fast without You.
Guide my decisions, my plans, and my path.
Amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sometimes we think we need more strength, more strategy, more opportunities\u2026
but in reality\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
what we need\u2026 is to return to dependence on God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because in the end\u2026
it\u2019s not about how high we go,
but about who is holding what we are building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
