They may not be visible on the outside, but they deeply shape the heart. One of those wounds is the pain many women experience when their relationship with their father was marked by absence, distance, or lack of affection.

A new Christian film is bringing attention to this sensitive subject with honesty and hope. The movie is titled “He Calls Me Daughter” and shares real stories of women who have found emotional healing after discovering the love of God as their Heavenly Father.

The film presents honest testimonies from women who grew up carrying deep wounds related to their earthly fathers. Some remember words they never heard growing up.

One woman in the film says:
“My dad never told me I was beautiful.”

Another shares something that many women have quietly felt in their lives:

“My dad never told me I was special or important. It was like he didn’t even know me.”

Among the voices featured in the documentary is well-known Christian comedian Chonda Pierce, who also shares part of her personal story.

In the film, Pierce reflects on painful moments from her childhood and family life, explaining that in several churches where her father served as a pastor, certain situations deeply affected their family.

This new film follows the success of the 2021 Christian documentary “Show Me the Father,” which explored the importance of fatherhood. However, this new project focuses on a different perspective: how daughters experience the emotional consequences when that relationship is broken or never properly formed.

Director Rick Altizer explained that the idea for the film came after he felt a strong spiritual prompting.

He said that while reflecting on the project, he sensed that he needed to make a film specifically for women carrying these wounds. At first he questioned whether he was the right person to tell such stories.

But according to Altizer, he felt the Holy Spirit encouraging him to move forward.

“I felt in my heart that God was saying, ‘I’ve given you everything you need. Just do it.’”

The documentary includes voices from women of different backgrounds, including Lynsi Snyder, owner of the well-known restaurant chain In-N-Out Burger. She openly shares how the absence of her father affected her life.

“When my father left my life, it left an open wound,” she explains in the film.

Other testimonies reveal deeply painful experiences as well. Actress BJ Arnett shares that all she ever wanted was to hear her father say he was proud of her.

“All I wanted was for my dad to say I was his.”

Another woman, Dee Dee Mayer, recounts a traumatic episode of violence during her childhood.

Dr. Meg Meeker, a parenting expert and author, also appears in the film explaining that many women carry what she calls a “father wound,” even if they do not immediately recognize it.

“Many women feel a deep pain inside, but they don’t always know where it comes from,” she explains. “The truth is that every daughter needs affirmation from her father.”

The film also acknowledges something many churches see often: there are women who love God, serve faithfully in their churches, and yet still carry emotional wounds related to their fathers.

Rick Altizer says he especially had those women in mind while making the film.

“I was thinking about the Christian woman who attends church, sings in the worship team, goes to women’s conferences, studies the Bible… and still feels that pain,” he explained.

One of the central themes of the film is that many people find it easier to connect with Jesus but struggle to relate to God as Father, because their earthly father relationships were broken or painful.

To help address that struggle, the film also provides practical resources. Viewers will have access to a six-week study guide designed to help them reflect, talk openly about these wounds, and begin a journey toward healing.

The goal, according to Altizer, is to help women learn to see God in a different way.

Not as a reflection of an imperfect earthly father, but as the perfect Heavenly Father who loves with faithfulness, truth, and grace.

Near the end of the documentary, Chonda Pierce summarizes this truth in a simple but powerful statement:

“A Heavenly Father changes everything.”

The film “He Calls Me Daughter” will be released in theaters on March 17 and 18, and viewers can find more information about where to watch it at the project’s official website.

More than just a movie, the message behind the film is clear:
the wounds of the past are real… but healing is also real when someone discovers the love of the Father who never abandons His children.

Sometimes a daughter’s pain begins with the absence of an earthly father.

But the story does not have to end there.

Because in God’s eyes, every woman is still called by a name that changes everything: daughter.

Somos Cristianos, connecting hearts with Christ.

A new Christian film titled “He Calls Me Daughter” explores one of the deepest emotional wounds many women carry: growing up with an absent or broken relationship with their father.
