Many times we hear the word Passover or Easter and assume everyone is talking about the same thing… but in reality there are two deeply connected stories that reveal something beautiful about the heart of God.

One begins in Egypt, in the middle of slavery.
The other begins on a cross and ends with an empty tomb.

And when you understand the connection between the two, the Christian faith takes on a depth that many people have never really considered.

Thousands of years ago, the people of Israel lived as slaves in Egypt. They had no freedom, no future, and no hope. Life was heavy and difficult. Then God raised up Moses and promised to deliver His people.

The final night before their departure from Egypt became one of the most important moments in biblical history.

God instructed each family to sacrifice a lamb without defect and place its blood on the doorposts of their homes. That night, when judgment passed through Egypt, the houses marked with the blood were protected. That is why it was called Passover—because judgment “passed over” those homes.

Passover

Every year Jewish families celebrate this feast to remember how God delivered them from slavery. During this special meal they remember the lamb, the unleavened bread, and the bitter herbs. The lamb represents the sacrifice that protected the families of Israel, the unleavened bread symbolizes the quick departure from Egypt when there was no time for the bread to rise, and the bitter herbs represent the pain and suffering of slavery. Everything at the table carries meaning. It is a celebration of freedom.

But what makes this story even more fascinating is that it was pointing to something greater that would come later.

Many centuries later, in Jerusalem, as the Jewish people were once again preparing to celebrate Passover, something extraordinary happened.

Jesus Christ

Jesus was arrested, judged, and crucified during the week of Passover. For Christians this is not a coincidence.

Just as a lamb was sacrificed in Egypt so that death would pass over the homes of Israel, Christians believe that Jesus became the true Lamb, giving His life to bring forgiveness and reconciliation with God.

Three days later something happened that changed history.

Resurrection of Jesus

The tomb was empty.

Jesus had risen.

That is why Christians celebrate Easter in a different way. We do not sacrifice lambs or repeat the ancient ritual. Instead, we celebrate Christ’s victory over sin and death.

The Jewish Passover remembers freedom from physical slavery.
The Christian Easter celebrates something even deeper: freedom from sin and death.

One speaks about leaving Egypt.
The other speaks about entering a new life with God.

They are not separate stories. In many ways they are two chapters of the same story. The first prepares the stage, and the second reveals the full meaning.

When Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, we remember that God did not only want to free a nation from an empire—He wanted to free the human heart from darkness.

Perhaps that is why this story has touched millions of people for centuries. Because all of us, at some point in life, feel like we are struggling with something that weighs on us: our past, guilt, mistakes, fear, or the wounds we carry inside.

Passover reminds us that God has always been a God who sets people free. First He freed a nation from slavery in Egypt. Later He opened the way to free the human soul through Jesus Christ.

Passover is not only an ancient story. It is a reminder that God still works in the lives of people. Where everything seems lost, God can still open a path. Where it seems the story has ended, He can still write a new beginning.

Let this reflection stay in your heart: many times we carry things that make us feel trapped, as if there is no way out. But the story of Passover shows us that God is an expert at opening doors when everything seems closed. If He could free an entire people from slavery and defeat death through Jesus Christ, He can also bring freedom, hope, and a new life into our hearts.

I invite you to join me in this prayer.

Lord, thank You because Your love has been present throughout history. Thank You because just as You freed Your people and raised Jesus from the dead, You can also bring freedom and hope into our lives. Help us trust in You and remember that no situation is beyond Your power. Fill our hearts with peace, faith, and hope. In the name of Jesus, amen.

In Somos Cristianos we connect hearts with Christ.

Passover and Easter are deeply connected in the story of the Bible.
